bows bows bows

So, I hopped on Nordstrom.com and what did I see?
Oh just a big lovely greeting of bow-topped pumps!
(and free shipping!?)
As you know, Nordstrom is launching tons of Prom goodies this year, and what better accesory to sweeten up any look than a bow adorned heel?
The DV by Dolce Vita 'Briar' Pumps are the sweetest things in a shiny nude patent! (leg elongating indeed!)

Nothing beats these Enzo Angiolinin 'Martini' Pumps! That color, that bow! The best I've seen yet!!

But of course, you can't go wrong with the classic toe-bow. Jeffery Campbell 'Situation' Pumps are just the perfect thing!

Oh, and if pumps just aren't your thing, there's plenty of swoon worthy oxfords going on over at BP too.
Oxfords galore! Right here Right now!!

Oh What A Night!

Alright! I'm back from the weekend, on an Oscar's high if I do say so myself!
I was super into it this year having seen most of the movies with major nominations, and counted down the days until the big night! But, what's even more interesting than who's going to be named Best what, is of course what are they going to wear??
This year, we saw celebs playing it safe in neutral silver, white, cream, and tans. But it wasn't boring in the least!

I loved Mandy Moore's Monique Lhuillier dress, perfectly sequined! Florence Welch's Valentino Haute Couture stood out as an unusual choice for red carpet wear. Michelle Williams looked chic in Chanel Haute Couture and her signature pixie-cut. Gwyneth Paltrow's silvery Calvin Klein sheath was ultra elegant. And, Halle Berry's Marchesa dress was stunning. Even Best Actor winner Colin Firth's wife was in on the trend!
The next big trend of the evening... red.

Oscar host Anne Hathaway's first look of the evening was a beautiful red Valentino Haute Couture number. Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence looked chic in a simple Calvin Clein Collection dress, and Sandra Bullock wore a stunning red Vera Wang gown. Jennifer Hudson looked gorgeous in red-orange Atelier Versace!
Jewel tones made an appearance as well.

Best Actress winner Natalie Portman wore a sweeping plum Rodarte gown, Scarlett Johansan wore a lacy Dolce & Gabbanna number, and Amy Adams 'shined' in a L'Wrenn Scott sequined beauty. But my favorite jewel-tone dress was that of Marisa Tomei. Her vintage Charles James gown, although a little oddly fit, was still gorgeous!
However, If I had to name someone best dressed of the evening, it would have to be 14 year old Hailee Steinfeld. (although I may be a teensy bit biased.) She looked incredible and sweet in a Marchesa ballerina-length dress, with beautiful nude satin Salvatore Ferragamo heels and clutch. She looked darling and totallly age-appropriate, and she carried herself so well!

But I can't go without mentioning Cate Blanchet's architectural Givenchy gown, which for being so daring, she pulled off flawlessly!

Well, that is the Oscar red carpet run down for 2011!

They Say You've Got Grit.

In following with my last post about the Oscars, I bring to you today... True Grit.
I'd been wanting to see this movie ever since I saw a behind the scenes feature in W Magazine with pictures that Jeff Bridges took during the shooting on his old film camera. I had just started falling in love with the desert and prarie-esque dresses, so what better thing to watch than a cowboy movie!
Like most Oscar nominees, it was a very very good movie. In fact, I loved it. The a) art direction b) acting and c) music, all combined to make a very wonderful cinematic production! But, what I loved the most was Mattie Ross's style. Somehow she made a giant men's trench and belt, with a wide flat brimmed hat, and long long braids, look pretty cool. With that, I bring to you...
The Mattie Ross look.
(ps: the links will bring you to Mattie-inspired pieces in BP!)
STEP ONE: long braids.

STEP TWO: awesome boots paired with a longer length dress and tailored jacket.

STEP THREE: cool westerny hat

STEP FOUR: an oversized wool trench cinched with a wide leather belt.

STEP FIVE: true grit.
You don't have to look costume-y. In small doses, pieces of Mattie's look can seem totally 2011. A leather belt, combat boots, even just braids! Western is practically the next boho!

Oscar Wild!

Sorry for being MIA for a while, I was out of town on a short vacation!
As we approach the Oscars  (t-minus 9 days!!) I've been trying to see as many Oscar nominated movies as I can, because its much funner to know what your rooting for! This year, I've seen The Kings Speech, 127 Hours, Inception, Toy Story 3, and am hoping to see True Grit tomorrow.  My pick for the most Oscar wins... The Kings Speech. It was such a wonderful film, with a wonderful message, wonderful actors, and wonderful art direction! With that, I bring you to our fashion subject of today: Helena Bonham Carter.
(credit: Vanity Fair)
Lately I've heard quite a fuss over her very peculiar fashion sense, and a sort of "outrage" at how many "rules" she breaks. I personally don't believe there are many fashion "rules" left to follow these days, and admire her daring style. It's not the most tasteful, but it's not completely tasteless.

What do you think?
Awful or Admirable?

pack it up!

I've been a fan of cross body bags for a while now. Not only do they add a cute dimension to any outfit, they are SO practical, and a hands-free, no bulk option for going out! Nordstrom just got an awesome selection of cross-bodies that have rekindled my little love for them. My faves...

But over the past years (and experiences with using massive totes as school bags, which is notthe best option.) I've found a new l-o-v-e for backpacks. We saw them on the runway, but unlike most runway trends, they are the most practical bags I've yet to encounter!
My backpack this year was from an army surplus supply store (it is pretty awesome army green canvas with a big black star. I love it.) But, here are some of my other favorites....

and then I saw this one... and fell over, and fell in love again! Woohoo for sequins!!

Rosie wears BP

I've never been one to do 'What I Wore Today' type posts, but with a new month and year came a new resolution. So, as of yesterday, I'm going to try my best to become a regular at these things. In honor, I decided to share with you all, my first ever official What I Wore post! Hooray!

I got this little black dress from BP years ago and it's definitely proved itself in my closet! Having been featured as a Christmas party dress several times, as well as utilized for a few Halloween costumes, it's finally made it's way into the ranks of regular citizen. :)
(oh yes, and I sprained my ankle three weeks ago and am still having to wear the clunky boot.)
Hopefully I can keep up for the rest of the month! Do you keep a blog of what you wear day to day?
XO ROSIE
PS: May I be so bold as to make a request...?
Is it possible for these shoes to make a comeback at BP?? I feel like I missed out!
