Last First-Day of School

My favorite thing about the first day of school has always been choosing my first day of school outfit! It was so bittersweet choosing my last first-day of school ensemble (I'll be graduating this year!)
Here's what I wore...

Plaid trousers, white shell blouse, vintage belt, and all!
I'm really mostly obsessed with those pants, and my hair was just a side braid so not much to see there.
and here's a Beach Boys song that I thought would be fitting with all this talk of back to school...
First impressions are important! What's your first day of school look?

Supply and Demand

Nothing's better than the bevy of new notebooks, binders, folders, and pencils that a new year of school brings on! I must admit, I do love my school supplies!
Note taking doesn't seem so bad with these Kate Spade Notepads...

This Hachette Books Floral Sunburst Journal adds some boho-vibe to your backpack.

And what girl wouldn't want Juicy Couture folders and doggy-topped pencils?

And last but not least, I'm in love with this funny giraffe-adorned lunch box!

...I think it's safe to say I never grew out of the pink phase.

PS: Study up... I'd gladly read this dictionary cover to cover!

That's a Wrap!

This fall, I'm in love with headscarves. See here and here.
I found some vintage scarves in California and have been wrapping my tresses in them ever since I got back. They add a touch of vintage boho charm to any outfit, and are a cool alternative to a headband (and a great bad hair day saver!)
They're a little tricky to figure out how to tie at first, so I thought I'd make you a tutorial!
Using one of my favorite scarf finds (and wearing the cute shirt BP sent me, thank you!)
YOU WIll NEED: A square scarf that's fairly big, yet fairly thin so it doesn't end up being too bulky wrapped around your head. My scarf measures about 30"x30"
STEP ONE: Fold your scarf in half along the diagonal, as pictured.
STEP TWO: From the corner, start folding your scarf down about two inches and continue until it's long and 2" wide. As pictured.
STEP THREE: (Here's where me and my little brother's mirror picture taking skills come in!) Put your scarf at the back of your head with the ends up and forward.
STEP FOUR: Pull the scarf around tightly and cross the ends over each other
STEP FIVE: (this part is a little hard to articulate) Then pull the ends back the way they were at first, so you get a little criss-crossy knot front and center.
STEP SIX: Pull the ends all the way around to the back again, and tie a little knot.
Voila! That is how you tie a headscarf! This really works with your hair up or down, my hair just so happened to be in a messy top bun.
What's your fall accessory obsession!?

How To Avoid An Overpacking Dilemma

Remember when I 'packed' for a little trip to central California? Well, that trip took place indeed! It was a nice laid-back week with cousins and family - sometimes that's all you need to break up the summer bore! I must admit that I wore the same pair of shorts for the first three days, after completely over packing! It was inevitable seeing as I didn't pack until the morning of.
AS a result of my lack of organization, I thought I'd mention a few staples I discovered on the trip when all I realized I needed was the bare minimum! Now presenting...
Minimalistic Packing for Family Vacations:

1: A perfect pair of shorts. Like I mentioned, I wore them 95% of the time I was there, completely ignored my jeans and even my maxi skirts! Find a basic that works for you, and don't be scared to wear it (a lot!) The truth is, no one notices on trips like this!
2: T-Shirts. For being the complete opposite of a t-shirt and jeans girl, I sure did love my t-shirts this trip. Bring easy style to your tee by getting them in interesting cuts and patterns. A cool crop, loose fit, or pretty pattern keeps your outfit simple yet styled!
3: TOMS will make your day! I brought a pair of flats and my TOMS and I got much more use from my TOMS, let me tell you! What can I say about them that has not already been said? Easy, comfy, perfect vacation material!
4: Swimsuit - of course!
5: No-hassle accessories, including one pair of sunglasses, one neutral go-with-anythingheadband, and a perfect bag for carrying the essentials. I loved my sunnies this trip, never bothered to fix my bangs, and found myself in a funk when needing to go out but only had a backpack to carry a simple cell phone and camera!
Two or three variations of those five things makes for success in avoiding over-packing!
I hope you had some fun vacations this summer! (That you were more prepared in terms of packing for than I!) Here's to ramping up for school! XO ROSIE

Summer + Music + What To Wear

A week or so ago, I went to see Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes up in Salt Lake! It was good times all around. But how could it not be when you get to dance around to Edward Sharpe with a friend or two on a summer evening? We saw a plethora of cropped tops, cross-body bags, short shorts, and hair feathers. So I decided to make you a little guide for how to dress when you're off to a summer evening concert in the park...
Step One: An easy breezy summer dress, cute patterns welcome.
1 - 2 - 3 - 4
Step Two: Pack a punch with simple yet bold accessories...
1 - 2 - 3
Step 3: Dance-able, run-able, goof-around-able shoes!
1 - 2 - 3 - 4
What would summer be without a concert or two thrown in? Did you see any great concerts this summer? What did you wear?
